Sample Instructional Materials – Students

EMAN

Winding down at the end of a beautiful school day… and thinking of what exciting plan to implement next!

The following is a compilation of lesson plans, curriculum frameworks, and syllabi of classes I have previously taught. Each lesson is differentiated and adapted to fit the audience I am teaching. I also have many resources related to adult education; references and specific examples are available upon request.

  • Upper Middle School Project-Learning Arc – Ok Go!

This is an introduction to a 13 week-long project-based-learning arc where students are introduced to Design Thinking via a Rube-Goldberg project where students were to create their own simple machine.

  • High School Lesson Plan – Introduction to Water

This is a lesson taught to 9th grade students introducing the concept of water. Water is an extensive topic that is covered in chemistry, physics, and biology, and so it is important to teach this early on to make sure students understand the relationship between all the subject matter. This lesson is geared towards lower achieving students, thus the language used in the readings is simpler to understand.

  2. Warm Up – Ancillary 2
  3. Properties of Water Handout – Ancillary 3
  4. Water Penny Lab – Ancillary 4
  • Middle School Lesson Plan – Nature of Science

This is a lesson taught to 6th grade students introducing them to the nature of science. It is done at the beginning of the year as a prelude to the scientific method and how to specifically think like a scientist. This lesson is essential for me as a teacher to set the tone in laying the base-work for what science really is about. The plan involves individual work as well as a student-led inquiry based lab.

Lesson Plan: Nature of Science and Teamwork

  1. Warm Up – Ancillary 1
  2. Nature of Science Activity – Ancillary 2
  3. Marble Ramp Lab – Ancillary 3
  4. The Story of Fred – Ancillary 4
  • General Science Lesson Plan – Observation and Inference

This is a general science lesson plan I have specially adapted for students in Mexico in the Tashirat Orphanage. There is no specific age range as I had students in my class from 9 – 17 years old. The lesson is taught verbally in English, whereas the worksheets provided are written in Spanish. A large part of this lesson was focused on having students understand vocabulary words (in Spanish) and putting them to use.

Lesson Plan: Observation and Inference

  1. Observation Notes – Ancillary 1
  2. Observation and Inference Activities – Ancillary 2
  3. Observation and Inference Practice – Ancillary 3
  4. Observation Hwk – Ancillary 4
